Why OSMEC?
Idaho consolidated three offices into one so the state can do more with less. House Bill 737 merged the Office of Species Conservation and the Office of Energy and Mineral Resources; House Bill 898 moved the State Historic Preservation Office into OSMEC. Sharing staff, systems, and administrative overhead across the three programs cuts duplicated cost and gives Idahoans a single point of contact for natural resource development, permitting, and heritage preservation. Fewer offices, less taxpayer expense, faster answers.
